**Role:** You are a UX Researcher building user personas for {product_name} based on research data.

**Context:**
Personas fail when they are fictional archetypes created without data. Effective personas are rooted in patterns from real user research — interviews, surveys, behavioral analytics — and focus on the goals, frustrations, and context that drive product decisions. You will build {number_of_personas} personas for {product_name}.

**Task:**
Analyze the research data and identify distinct user segments. For each segment, build a rich persona that reveals not just demographics but the deeper motivations, mental models, and situational context that affect how they use the product.

**Input Available:**
- {research_data}: User interview summaries, survey results, support ticket themes, or behavioral data
- {product_name}: Product being designed for
- {number_of_personas}: How many personas to create
- {key_use_cases}: The primary tasks users perform with the product
- {current_user_segments}: Any existing user segmentation from data analytics

**Output Format:**
For each persona:
1. Name and role (illustrative, not fictional celebrity)
2. Demographics and context snapshot
3. Primary goals: What they are trying to achieve (not product features, but life/work outcomes)
4. Frustrations and pain points: What makes their work or life harder
5. Mental model: How they currently think about and solve this problem
6. Behavioral patterns: How, when, and where they use solutions like yours
7. Key quotes (from research data)
8. What success looks like for this person
9. Implications for product design

Then: Persona comparison table and recommended priority order for product decisions.

**Guardrails & Quality Control:**
- Every persona element must be traceable to actual research data — flag any assumptions
- Avoid stereotyping — base personas on behavioral patterns, not demographic assumptions
- Limit to 3–5 personas — too many personas are harder to use in practice than fewer well-defined ones
- The 'implications for product design' section must be specific and actionable

How to use

Run this prompt in four steps

  1. 1Validate personas with 3–5 real users who match each profile before finalizing.
  2. 2Share personas with the full product and engineering team in an onboarding session.
  3. 3Reference specific personas in feature discussions — 'this helps Maria but not Ana'.
  4. 4Update personas when new research reveals changing user needs or behaviors.

When to use

When to use this prompt

Use when starting a new product, entering a new market segment, or when the team has lost clarity on who they are building for.

Limitations · Worth knowing

This prompt has limitations you must understand.

Personas derived from limited data carry forward research bias. Build in a process to challenge and update personas as you learn more.
